The Osun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has said six people lost their lives while seven others were injured in multiple road accidents that occurred in Ipetu Ijesa along Ilesa/Akure expressway on Tuesday.
According to a statement by the Sector Public Education Officer, Agnes Ogungbemi, a total of N27,171,400 was recovered from the scene following the crash, and has since been handed over to representatives of the victims' families. The statement also indicated that the accident involved two commercial vehicles, namely an Opel and a Toyota Sienna, and was likely caused by dangerous driving and excessive speeding. The statement went on to report that 14 people were involved in the accident, with six fatalities and seven injuries, while one person escaped without any injury.
The Wesley Guild Hospital in Ilesa received the injured victims, while the corpses of the deceased were deposited in the same hospital morgue. The sum of N21,900, which belonged to the driver of the GBA440XA OPEL ZAFIRA, was handed over to the NPF Ijebu Ijesa, and the vehicles involved in the accident were towed to the police station. Additionally, a total of N27,171,400 was recovered from the scene and subsequently delivered to the family members of the victims.
